Reflection on personal creative development during the semester

Overall I'm very pleased with the skills I have learnt within AE and with visual media as a whole. I have previously used AE for other assignments but was never really taught anything of real use and importance. throughout the semester so far I have learnt many things that i would have loved to have known last year for other subjects e.g. masking within AE and the animation of those masks, motion tracking and the ability to import PSD''s straight into AE. Also on a more personal level, when i watch TV i find myself analysing all the ad's and trying to figure out how they have achieved certain effects and if I would be able to replicate them with the skills I have learnt. Honestly out of all the subjects i have completed in the 2 years I have been attending QUT this subject would have to be the one i have learnt most in and is probably my favourite as well.

Week 5 Task

when we first started working on this exercise I wasn't really interested, but after we were shown an example I was incredibly impressed with what could be achieved, so i tried to do create something really unique by editing the audio and putting in a fair bit of effort to create my clip for this task. I'm very happy with what I have produced.

Week 6 Task

I didn't really enjoy doing this exercise like i have enjoyed completing the others, that being said I am still quite pleased with how it turned out, and will most definitely be using animated masks in my final piece of assessment.

Week 8 Task 2

this exercise really opened my eyes to what AE is really capable. after completing the previous exercise this one only took me about 3 minutes to complete and I found that the tracking worked incredibly well on the first attempt. In my original version of this exercise I used the image provided, but after that I wanted to see how well a video would work in its place, I was very pleased with how the tracking worked with the video so I have posted that version instead.

Week 8 Task 1

I found this exercise a really interesting one. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. I also wish I had known about this feature last year, it would have been really handy for one of my other assignments. but watching it again now, I realise that it probably would have been better to use a different colour for the text so it is easier to see in the video.

Week 7 Task

I really enjoyed this exercise and am pleased with my final result. A few years ago i had learnt how to link the waveform of an audio file to other layers but had forgotten how to do it so re-learning how to do it has been a really enjoyable exercise. also in my video it may be hard to see but i have linked the audio not only to the dancing guys legs but also some blue lighting but its a bit hard to see on the above video.

Week 4, Mad Mack's ad

i found this exercise helpful, and I gained vital knowledge of linking different layers animations together. Overall I thought that this exercise turned out fairly well, apart from a few timing issues. I was also impressed that you could import PSD files into AE and work on the different layers separately, this will make allot of my future projects allot easier to complete.
